His father died early, and his mother raised him alone. Elizabeth Jackson worked as a factory worker and later in a mental hospital. Jackson's childhood was spent in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was educated in various schools.

Education and Early Career

Jackson completed his early education from Riverside High School and then enrolled at Morehouse College in Atlanta. In college, he began studying marine biology, but quickly realized his interest in acting. During college, he honed his acting skills by joining a local acting group.
